摘要 | The scheme designated for this project is to scrutinize three main themes in Benjamin’s and Deleuze’s discourses in order to better understand the concept of translation; they are: origin, history, and repetition. To begin with, this project will put its emphasis on Deleuze’s two influential books: Difference and Repetition and Nietzsche and Philosophy. Such perusal aims at seeking a possibility where Deleuze’s discourses can be related to translation theory. By examining the influence of deconstruction on contemporary translation discourses, this project attempts to reconsider the tendency where deconstructionists favor difference over repetition. This examination is meant to point out that favoring difference is at stake if we celebrate it without recognizing its other side. One danger, among others, is the “essentializing of the difference.” Reading some reflections upon the essentializing of the difference made by some theorists enables us to recognize the fact that contemporary translation discourses do not sufficiently consider the notion of difference. Although it is undeniable that difference thinking makes great contribution to de-centering and disrupting the hegemony, and hence opening up more possibilities, we still need to carefully examine the notion of “difference”. It is at this point Deleuze’s discourses on difference and repetition can shed new light on translation theory. In the final stage this project will return to Benjamin’s notions of origin and history, along with Deleuze’s difference and repetition, in order to seek a thorough and careful understanding of the concept of translation. 本計畫為連續型計畫。原本的計畫構想是由起源、歷史、重覆三個主題來理解翻譯的概念,並以班雅明與德勒茲作為主要閱讀文本。本年度計畫將延伸為兩年。第一年將重點聚焦於德勒茲《差異與重覆》以及《尼采與哲學》二書,尋求將德勒茲論述與翻譯理論的串連,並使兩者發生關係的可能。第二年則由解構思潮對於當代翻譯論述的影響開始,探究其強調差異、壓抑重覆的傾向,並且指出,對於差異的強調固然爲翻譯研究開啟嶄新的一頁,但一面倒地頌揚「差異」卻存在一些隱而不顯的危險,其中之一便是「差異的本質化」。由一些翻譯理論家(例如尼倫賈納與酒井直樹等)對於差異的本質化這個問題的反省中,我們得以查覺,當代翻譯論述對於差異的概念仍有所不足。即便我們必須承認差異思維對於去中心、動搖根基,以及開放更多可能性這些層面上有絕對不可抹除的貢獻,我們仍需仔細思考差異本身的種種危險與可能的問題。正是在這一點上,德勒茲對於差異與重覆的說法可爲我們指引一個新的方向。最後將再返回班雅明以及德勒茲兩人關於起源與歷史的說法,才能更全面且謹慎地掌握翻譯的概念。 |
