| 摘要 | 本研究はライフストーリー研究の枠組みで、日本で徹底した「一親一言語の原則」（OPOL）で子育てをした台湾人母と成人した娘の語りをもとに、母娘それぞれが OPOL の育児・成長過程をどう捉えているのかを探究した。分析の結果、成長過程で娘のバイリンガリズムに対する態度が急激に悪化し、ネガティブだった時期を経て、最終的にはポジティブに捉えられるようになった経緯が明らかになり、その間に母娘ともにさまざまな困難があったことが浮き彫りになった。それでも台湾人母がOPOL を貫き通せた要因として 1）母自身の強い意志、2）夫の高い中国語能力、3) 第三言語である英語の存在、が見出され、また間接的な要因の可能性として 1）母娘ともに高い言語能力、2）娘の台湾に対する親愛、3）母娘の良好な関係、が示唆された。最後に、娘の中国語に対する羞恥心の要因が周りの奇異や反感の目であった点は、多文化化する日本社会が真摯に向き合うべき課題と言えよう。 This study examines the narratives of a Taiwanese mother and her adult daughter, who was raised in Japan under the strict “one parent-one language” (OPOL) principle, using a life story research framework. The analysis reveals that the daughter’s attitude toward bilingualism underwent a significant shift: from a rapid deterioration, marked by a period of negativity, to a more positive perspective in later years. The narratives highlight various challenges faced by both the mother and the daughter during this time. The findings underscore several key factors that enabled the mother to maintain adherence to OPOL: (1) the mother’s strong determination, (2) the father’s high proficiency in Chinese, and (3) the presence of English as a third language. Additionally, the following indirect factors are suggested: (1) the high oral proficiency of both the mother and the daughter, (2) the daughter’s emotional connection to Taiwan, and (3) the harmonious relationship between the mother and the daughter. Moreover, the daughter’s embarrassment about speaking Chinese stemmed from the stigmatizing and antagonistic attitudes she encountered in her social environment. The study argues that such issues require serious attention from contemporary Japanese society to foster inclusivity and support for bilingual/ multilingual individuals. |
