摘要 | With the growing aging population, establishing an effective long-term care (LTC) system has become a paramount concern for nations worldwide. The extreme uncertainty and high costs associated with LTC services have prompted individuals to purchase private long-term care insurance (LTCI) to transfer some LTC financial risk to life insurance companies. Nevertheless, many previous studies have highlighted the inadequacy of the LTCI market in addressing the challenges an aging society poses. Moreover, various factors influence individual decisions regarding LTCI purchases. By analyzing data obtained from a 2018 poll conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago, comprising 1,945 samples, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of perceptions of long-term care probabilities and political party attitudes on demand for Private LTCI. The empirical results supported that individuals who support the Republican Party are more willing to purchase long-term care insurance than those who support the Democratic Party. However, there is no significant relationship between the perception of long-term care probability and long-term care insurance. The empirical results of this project may provide some inspiration relating to how the perception and the political attitude relating to long-term care impact demand for private long-term care insurance. |
